The 60% nanofiltration membrane is characterized by high removal efficiency for divalent salts and selective rejection of monovalent salts.
What does it mean when we refer to the removal range of a 60% nanofiltration membrane, and how should this specification be interpreted in the context of membrane performance?
Monovalent salts make ions with a ±1 charge, like table salt (NaCl) and KCl. With a smaller size and lower charge, these salts mostly pass through the 60% nanofiltration membrane, which is less effective at blocking them.
Divalent salts, on the other hand, produce ions with at least a ±2 charge when dissolved, such as MgSO₄, CaSO₄, or CaCl₂. With higher charges and larger hydrated radii, these salts are efficiently retained by the 60% nanofiltration membrane, typically achieving removal rates of over 90%.
The 60% nanofiltration membrane is highly effective in removing key scaling and corrosive contaminants such as hardness and sulfate, allowing target water quality to be met while significantly reducing system energy consumption and overall operating costs. It is especially suitable for industrial and commercial water treatment applications focused on water quality control rather than complete desalination, and can also serve as a pretreatment step for RO membrane systems.

- The permeate tube (center tube) running through the middle of the membrane.
- Feed spacer layers between the membrane sheets, forming water flow channels.
